Vault 3 Installation Instructions

32 and 64-bit Windows

Step 1: Install the Java Runtime Environment

  1. Browse to this url: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp.
  2. Download the Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11 for the Windows Platform if you run a 32-bit Windows Operating System, otherwise download the Windows x64 version.
  3. After the download completes, run the file to install the Java Runtime Environment.

Step 2: Install Vault 3

  1. Download Vault 3 for 32-bit Windows or Vault 3 for 64-bit Windows.
  2. Unzip the file to your Windows "Program Files" folder, in a folder named "Vault 3".
  3. Right-click the desktop and select New / Shortcut.
  4. In the location text box enter this: javaw.exe -DConfigPath="%AppData%\Vault 3" -jar "%ProgramFiles%\Vault 3\vault_win.jar"
  5. Click the "Change Icon" button and specify this file path: %ProgramFiles%\Vault 3\vault3.ico.

Step 3: Run Vault 3

Double-click the desktop shortcut to launch Vault 3.

Vault 3 listens to a TCP/IP socket in order to ensure that only one instance of the program runs. If you have Windows Firewall enabled you'll see the following warning message. Click Unblock.

Running Vault 3 on Windows machines from a Flash Drive

If you run Vault 3 on multiple machines, running Vault 3 from a flash drive can be a convenient option. Click Run Vault 3 from a Flash Drive for complete instructions.

32 and 64-bit Linux GTK (e.g. Ubuntu, etc.)

Step 1: Install the Java Runtime Environment

  1. Select Applications / Add/Remove.
  2. Drop down the Show drop-down. Choose All available applications.
  3. Enter Sun Java in the Search text box.
  4. Check the check box to the left of Sun Java 6 Runtime in the list of Applications.
  5. Click Apply Changes.
  6. Click Apply.

Step 2: Install Vault 3

  1. Download Vault 3 for 32-bit Linux (GTK) (e.g. Ubuntu, etc.) or Vault 3 for 64-bit Linux (GTK) (e.g. Ubuntu, etc.).
  2. Unzip the file to a hard disc folder.
  3. Right-click the Desktop.
  4. Select Create Launcher.
  5. Enter Vault 3 in the Name text box.
  6. Enter the following in the Command text box: java -jar {folder into which you extracted the .zip file}/vault_linux_gtk.jar
  7. Click Close.

Step 3: Run Vault 3

Double-click the Vault 3 launcher.
